What a Bridge Captain does.

You show up, stay present, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Seniors and families trust you to handle the logistics so they don't have to worry.

Pickup & Assistance

Meet the senior at their home, walk them to the car, and bring them through the clinic entrance safely.

Check-in Support

Help at the front desk — fill out forms if needed, confirm the appointment, and navigate to the right area of the building.

Waiting & Presence

Stay at the clinic throughout the appointment. Be available so the senior isn't alone between the waiting room and exam room.

Safe Return Home

Walk the senior back out, help them into the car, and make sure they're settled before you leave. Door-through-door, both ways.

Family Update

Send a brief check-in message after the appointment so the family knows it went smoothly — or flag anything that came up.

Reliability First

Being on time, every time, is the job. Seniors and families have often already cancelled or rescheduled once — your consistency matters.

What you will — and won't — do.

Bridge Captains are trusted community members, not medical professionals. The boundaries are simple and firm.

You will

  • Arrive on time and greet the senior warmly
  • Walk with them through the entire visit
  • Help at check-in with paperwork and directions
  • Stay in the waiting area throughout the appointment
  • Assist with mobility at your own comfort level (e.g., a steadying arm)
  • Coordinate with the family contact before and after
  • Follow Bridge protocols for reporting and communication

You will not

  • Administer or handle any medication
  • Interpret or relay medical advice from a provider
  • Make or discuss healthcare decisions
  • Act as a caregiver, home health aide, or nurse
  • Be responsible for clinical outcomes
  • Work alone with a senior in their home beyond the doorstep
  • Be on call — appointments are scheduled in advance

You might be a great fit if…

Your schedule has flexibility

Appointments are mornings and afternoons, weekdays. You pick which shifts work for you.

You're patient and calm

Medical settings can be stressful for seniors. A steady, reassuring presence matters more than speed.

You know Lincoln

Familiarity with local clinics, parking, and neighborhoods makes logistics smoother for everyone.

You communicate well

Families want clear, timely updates. You don't ghost — you check in and follow up.

You're comfortable with a background check

Every Captain goes through screening before their first appointment. It's standard and expected.

You want purposeful work

Not a side hustle — something local, meaningful, and worth telling someone about at dinner.

You have a reliable vehicle

Most appointments include transport. A clean, non-smoking car is required.

No healthcare background required

Life experience, community involvement, or a caregiving background all translate well. We train you on the rest.

Why this work matters.

One in three older adults in Lincoln misses or delays a medical appointment because they can't get there alone — or because no one they trust is available to help. Bridge Captains close that gap. You're not filling a shift. You're making sure someone's parent gets the care they need.

Captain FAQ

How much does a Captain earn per appointment?

Pay is per appointment and determined during the application process based on availability, experience, and distance. We're transparent about numbers before you commit to anything — no vague "competitive pay" language. Reach out to hello@bridgelincoln.com if you'd like specifics before applying.

How many appointments would I take on per week?

That's largely up to you. During onboarding we'll ask about your availability, and we'll only send you requests that fit your schedule. Most Captains start with 2–4 appointments per week and adjust from there. You're never obligated to accept an assignment.

Do I need medical training or a healthcare background?

No. Bridge Captains are companions and logistics support, not clinical staff. Life experience, caregiving experience, or strong interpersonal skills are far more relevant than a medical credential. We provide all the training you need before your first appointment.

Is there a background check?

Yes — every Captain goes through a standard background check before their first assignment. This is a non-negotiable part of earning the trust that families place in us. We cover the cost.

What if something goes wrong during an appointment?

You'll never be left to figure it out alone. Bridge provides a clear protocol: in a medical emergency, call 911 immediately, then contact the family and Bridge. You will have a Bridge point of contact reachable by phone throughout every appointment. We train for edge cases so they're not surprises.

Do I provide transportation, or just the assistance?

It varies by booking. Some families arrange their own transport and need a Captain only for the clinic assistance. Others need door-to-door support including the ride. Your profile will indicate whether you're available to provide transport, and you'll only receive requests that match.

How is this different from a rideshare or gig platform?

Bridge Captains are vetted, trained, and assigned to specific appointments — not matched by an algorithm. There's no surge pricing, no ratings race, no "accept within 30 seconds." You're part of a small, trusted team doing meaningful local work. That's intentional — it's what allows families to trust us with someone they love.

What cities or areas do you serve?

We're currently serving the Lincoln, NE metro area. If you're based in Lincoln or the surrounding area and have reliable transportation, you're likely in our service area. We'll confirm specifics during the application process.
